LG to focus on smartphones

                                                  LG plans launch up to 30 new models across price range by the end of next year.
Korean handset maker LG is targeting to double its share to 10 per cent in the growing smartphone market in India by December 2014, on the back of slew of new device launches.
The company, which has been reworking its mobile phone business in the country, will now be focusing on the smartphone segment, and will launch up to 30 new models across price range by the end of next year.
“We were reshaping our mobile phone business. It took us one-and-half years to do so. At present, our market share is close to 5 per cent in the country which we expect to increase to 10 per cent by end of next year,” LG India Managing Director Soon Kwon said.
LG, on Thursday, launched Optimus Pro G, priced at Rs.42,500.

Optimus Pro runs on Android Jellybean operating system, and is powered by a 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad core processor. It boosts of a 5.5 inch full HD display and has a 13 megapixel rear camera and 2.1 MP front full HD camera.
“LG expects to sell 1 million smartphones this year. As a part of our strategy, we will be adding 100-150 retailers every month to expand our reach. At present, we sell through 1,600 top retailers which we expect to increase to over 3,000 retailers,” he said.
To push sales, Mr. Kwon said the company would spend about Rs.80 crore for retail development and marketing activities.
